Should You Lie to Avoid Breaking A Heart?

“Lie to me, if the truth will break my heart o”

That’s one line from Simi’s “Smile for me” lyrics that makes me roll my eyes every time.

‘I’m not a preacher of lie, I am truth.’

So this is my position.

Don’t lie to me to save me from whatever heartbreak you believe I would suffer. If you don’t want my heart broken, then don’t do the things that would break it. But if you’ve done it, tell me. I’m not a china doll, so I would rather know and deal with the action and its consequences immediately than postpone the inevitable.

I doubt I will ever understand the point of actually making a decision or taking an action that would break someone’s heart, and then lie about it ‘to protect them’.

Or what do you think?

Lie in the name of protecting their ‘heart’?

Or come clean, and deal it immediately?
