The Confusing New World

I’m confounded. Nothing has prepared me for this world that has in some ways, become an unchartered territory.

The world has always been this big place that no one really fully knew. But as we grow older, we begin to think we have the way of the world figured out, only for us to be gobsmacked by something new.

It used to be new technology, but now it’s more than that.

It's now a world where subjects like letting children decide their gender are worthy of debate, when only a few years back, the idea was even inconceivable. It's a world where some people believe it's okay to attack a father for announcing the birth of his twin 'sons' and accuse him of depriving the babies who by the way are born sons or males, of their right to decide their gender. “What if they are daughters right? And God or nature had somehow made a mistake in their assigned birth gender”

Not in a million years would I have thought that I would sit down and take mandatory training on why I should never assume colleagues and clients are a certain gender because of how they look.

It's new to me, especially now that I'm right in the middle of it.

I grew up in a world that lets people do what they please while respecting other people’s right to hold a different view. But I’m now living in one that sees whoever holds a different view as the enemy.

I’m confounded. Nothing has prepared me for this world that has in some ways, become an unchartered territory.

I only wonder what the world of our children would look like.
