Would You Tell Your Best Friend That They Are Not Good At Something?

One of the things I value most in any friendship is honesty (right after loyalty). I believe that if you cannot be honest with the ones you call friends, then what’s the friendship about?

But how do you strike a balance between being honest with your friend and trying not to hurt or discourage them?

So, let’s paint a scenario; your best friend loves to sing, and had expressed his/her intentions to pursue a career singing, the problem though is that they cannot sing to save a life (the tone-deaf kind), and it’s not for lack of trying or training, the talent is simply lacking in their DNA.

Now, you know how much music means to them, and how happy they get when singing.  You also know that if you keep mute, or give them a thumbs up every time they destroy (not in a good way) a musical note, they will probably continue to sing (poorly) and then graciously offer to sing at your wedding.

Would you be honest with them? Or just keep mute and hope someone else tells them soon?
